Day 1 : Moshi - Londorossi Gate - Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp

Our journey begins with a 4-hour drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate, where we complete the necessary registrations. After a delicious lunch, we continue to the Lemosho trailhead. From there, we embark on a 6 km trek through lush rainforest, reaching our first camp, Mti Mkubwa Camp, at an elevation of 9,500 ft.

Day 2 : Mti Mkubwa Camp - Shira 1 Camp

Leaving Mti Mkubwa Camp, we venture into the savannah grasses and volcanic rock adorned with lichen beards. Hiking for approximately 5-6 hours and covering 8 km, we ascend to Shira 1 Camp, standing at an altitude of 11,500 ft. The breathtaking view of Kibo Peak from this camp is truly remarkable.

Day 3 : Shira 1 Camp - Moir Hut

Today, we traverse the vast Shira Plateau, immersing ourselves in the magnificent scenery. We have two options: continue to Shira 2 Camp and join trekrs from the Machame route or take the less-traveled path to Moir Hut. The Moir Hut option allows for acclimatization and presents opportunities to explore Lent Hills. The elevation ranges from 11,500 ft to 13,800 ft, and the hiking time is approximately 5-7 hours.

Day 4 : Moir Hut - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

We start the day by ascending a ridge towards the peak of Kibo, changing our direction southeast toward the imposing Lava Tower. After reaching the Lava Tower at 15,190 ft, we descend to Barranco Camp at 13,044 ft. Although the day's elevation remains similar, this crucial acclimatization day prepares us for the summit push. The hiking distance varies depending on the starting point.

Day 5 : Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp

We begin the day by descending the Barranco Wall, followed by a trek across a series of hills and valleys. Our destination is Karanga Camp at 13,106 ft, covering a distance of 5 km over approximately 4-5 hours. This short day allows for further acclimatization.

Day 6 : Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp

Leaving Karanga Camp, we proceed to the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. Continuing upwards, we reach Barafu Camp at 15,331 ft. This marks the completion of the southern route and offers stunning views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Here, we rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 7 : Barafu Camp - Summit - Mweka Camp

The most challenging day arrives as we embark on the summit attempt. Starting around midnight, we ascend to Stella Point at 18,600 ft, where we rest briefly and witness a magnificent sunrise (weather permitting). From Stella Point, we continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,341 ft. After celebrating our achievement, we descend to Mweka Camp at 10,065 ft, covering a distance of 5 km on the ascent and approximately 12 km on the descent.

Day 8 : Mweka Camp - Moshi

Following a well-deserved breakfast and celebration, we trek for three hours to Mweka Gate. At the gate, you will receive your gold certificate for reaching the summit. From there, we head to Mweka Village to meet our driver, who will take you back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
